Aggregates are a mineral resource and they are located wherever Nature has placed them. From the beginning of the civilizations, aggregates have been the raw material of construction to build houses, monuments, roads, etc. Nowadays, aggregates have many uses. We can even state that everything we can find at our homes contains some kind of material that comes from a quarry. We shouldn’t forget that aggregates are one of the raw materials that are used to obtain glass. Therefore, without aggregates we wouldn’t have everyday objects like our glasses.
During last years, the Catalan aggregates industry has evolved in a very significant way until becoming one of the economic sectors more well-respected in the industrial and politic sphere. Thanks to the constant effort and the well-done work, we have left behind us the image of a sector careless about the environment and we have placed ourselves as the avant-garde of the sustainable companies. In this evolution, the Gremi d’Àrids de Catalunya, has played a key role, representing the sector’s interests and, at the same time, explaining the important function that aggregates have in our society to the Governments and society. Aggregates are the second raw material more consumed, only after water, so they have been key for the history and evolution of humanity.
Nowadays, quality of life in a country is directly related to the aggregates consumption. Our society asks for more and more modern infrastructures. In order to progress, a society has to use aggregates. Without them, we couldn’t have roads, trains, buildings, harbors, etc.
